Welcome to Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2021 online!
Soon a new round of Stockholm Junior Water Prize will begin, with national competitions in some 35 countries. The international finals will again be held digitally in August, including the festive award ceremony.
Stockholm Junior Water Prize is always an important part of World Water Week which in 2021 will take place on 23-27 August with the theme Building Resilience Faster. The entire week will be held digitally, in a new state-of-the art format, and the same applies to Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
“We had of course hoped that we would be able to bring the finalists to Stockholm again in 2021 but unfortunately we have no way of knowing if the global pandemic will have subsided by then. To ensure that the finals can be held we have therefore decided to arrange them online,” says Ania Andersch, Senior Manager for Stockholm Junior Water Prize at Stockholm International Water Institute, SIWI.
SIWI has organized Stockholm Junior Water Prize as an international competition every year since 1997 and over the years it has grown into a strong community with its own traditions. Competing in the finals are all the winning teams from the national competitions, which are held in the first few months of the year. The international finalists present their projects to a jury of world-leading experts and get to participate in study visits as well as the award ceremony where the winner is presented with the prize by H.R.H Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, the Patron of Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
“In 2020 we suddenly had to move all that online due to the outbreak of Covid-19, which was an unexpected challenge. For next year, we are much more prepared and will benefit from the infrastructure of the new digital World Water Week. With that, we will be able to maintain much of the same community spirit that always surrounds the prize. We will of course do everything we can to make participating in Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2021 a truly memorable experience,” Ania Andersch says.
