SIWI at COP22: Capitalizing on water and multi-stakeholder engagement for successful implementation of the Paris Agreement

Hosted by SIWI, AGWA and a number of their partners on November 8, this session will create new linkages between water and climate ministries, decision-makers, practitioners and non-state actors to support the achievement of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC’s) and the ambitions of the Paris Agreement.

Context:

Water is an important factor when considering effective implementation of NDC’s under the Paris Agreement. Unfortunately, water and climate policy communities (including decision makers and non-state actors) do not have a strong history of working together in many countries and/or globally. This session is designed to bring together the water, climate, environment and other relevant policy communities to initiate a dialogue on the operationalization of the Paris Agreement via the implementation of NDCs and their articulation within National Adaptation Plans (NAP’s), accessing climate finance and utilizing the support of non-state parties through the Green Climate Action Agenda (GCAA).

Event Objective:

This session is designed to bring together the water and other relevant communities to advance a dialogue on the role of water resilience in realizing the ambitions of the Paris Agreement. The event aims to showcase the opportunities and challenges that exist for successful implementation of NDCs and their articulation with NAP’s, access to climate finance and utilizing the support from non-state parties through the GCAA.
